This stone lies in the churchyard of Saint John the Evangelist's, Briggate. Will we ever know whose memory it was sacred to?"Are we surprised that men perish when monuments themselves decay? For death comes even to stones & the names they bear" - Ausonius.

Too true! That is such a shame. A lot of work appears to have gone into that stone (which looks very much like slate?). It is awful that we will never know who it was for. . .
