Does anyone know if there are anymore of the air vents from the Whitehall road service tunnel system still to be found around the city?I have this one on Queen street alreadyhttp://www.flickr.com/photos/phill_dvsn/3392508371/I believe there used to be one on Wellington street. I presume it's now gone?Is there anymore, and does anyone have some more info on this tunnel. The entrance to the tunnel i believe is here??http://snipurl.com/und5d

Nice one Cardiarms.I didn't know about that one. Great stuff! It shows that tunnel must be quite complex under there, It runs in a few directions. I was wondering if the digs at Lumiere had revealed any of it?

As far as i'm aware there are only the ewo vents I discussed with you a while ago, Northern Street and Queen Street (Listed!). Would make sense that the ducts travel in more than direction, we need a \yedl version of Cardiarms I i thinkold threads here:http://www.secretleeds.co.uk/forum/Mess ... ighLight=1

No doubt there was a way in from the power station. Would you think there was a way in from the substation, It will have been connected via those tunnels i presume? (or any other ways in) The reason for my interest is... i've found a rather nice, and ornate substation. I would describe it as a large 'Postbox' type think. It has this cast plate. DANGER. High Voltage substation.City of Leeds Electricty Department.1. Whitehall Road, LEEDS.It's painted in the same green as the Great Northern street air vent, it is VERY old.I haven't posted the pics yet, I'm saving it until i've looked at these tunnel vents and substation closer, It's around a mile away from Whitehall road these days. It does look very old, It has a rather nice Finial on top too.I would be interested to know if there are any maps of these tunnels. And if there still used e.t.c!

Isn't there one opposite the market (Harper St?) been featured here before.I suspect that for their time they were significant in terms of the supply they manged - unlike your little pill-box thing! Tunnels - I've only ever seen the one across to Queen Street actually documented Phill, though they my be more - would seem ftrange not to use an existing infrastructure for modern day supplies, particularly if this reduced the civils otherwise necessary for cable laying, after all that was the intention of Marsh Lane wasn't it. (answers to a similar question you asked about not forgotten btw.... working on him!)With regard to Northern/Queen St, I strongly suspect it may well be in use - there is a large underground substation up there, well, under there fed, I understand at 33KV - rules on legitimate asccess to such areas are very srtict and taken very seriously - and with good cause, careful if you find anything open.
