I would have straight away thats for sure. i think they've gone down pretty deep around the foundations with what i've seen of the new conversion.. Also it would have to be a pretty deep tunnel to go under the Meanwood beck that runs alongside the Mabgate as well. I think all the recent work on the place would have revealed any tunnel.. I recognise the first picture, but not the second, we used to go "urbexing" down there as kids before the phrase was even invented. We gave names to all the obstacles we had to overcome, "devils ledge", "The Slants" etc.Phil, did I read somewhere that you were brought up in Lincoln Green, you seem to frequent the same pubs as each other, perhaps we know each other in real life? No a Seacroft boy. Although i've gone up market & reside in Gledhow now!! Uh hum!! I do get all over tho Tony!

Around the back of the pub. You can see how close the pub is to the Meanwood beck culvert. You can also see the different stone & brickwork added over the years. This is the last time the becks seen untill it reaches the royal armouries. When the pub was built the beck was an open flowing stream. The tunnels were built later. You can see why many people talk of a secret tunnel from this view.

It's hard to think this is where we used to sit having a pint. It's shocking with what they've done inside. The pub was small enough before. It's been split in two & there isn't the room for a cat to swing a mouse.

The old back room. At least the glass has been retained. Soon to be a thing of the past. A smoke room in a pub. Sad times of the nanny state!! You can see the wall of the Meanwood beck behind.

The most infamous pub cellar in Leeds. It's in two halves. There was absolutely no sign of any blocked off entrance according to the guys who worked here. I love the idea of the tunnel for randy priests but i think it's just another old folk tale, like all the other secret tunnels in Leeds :-(

excellent peice of detective work there phil it seems as though you have nailed this one but looking at the picture's of the beck culvert you can see where the stories have come about.

Oh absolutely i agree with you there Brandy about why the tunnel myth is so strong!! We all love a good tunnel story. I would love them to be true especially. Unfortunately they never are, There is never any entrances to them & building a tunnel in total secrecy is nigh on impossible. I challenge anyone to have a go at building a tunnel from there shed to the greenhouse without her indoors finding out. There's a good drink in it for the person who does. They'll need it! PHEW :-0

He knows this cause he was one of the team of people who bricked them up!Apparently the only one left open was the shortest stretch, which ran from the brewery to the Adelphi. Is there anyone out there who drinks at the Adelphi & wants to ask to have a look at the beer cellar? me! Just thinking about this story of passages for delivering beer to ale houses. This is the second time it's been mentioned on secret Leeds. You say the only passage left is the passage from the Adelphi to Tetleys? Tetleys didn't own the Adelphi untill 1962 i believe..
