They're not exclusive to roundhay, there's still thousands about, but as things have moved on and phones have become connected to literally every household, new cables etc have been put in the ground and when the "coupling" (see previous post) is dug out, those usually are too.

Hi Maiden.. no if you look at my pic it's not a G.P.O marker. It's the feet & inches thing. I've only seen 2 about-both in Roundhay.

Ah right, I thought because we were also talking about the concrete ones that these were some sort of older version. The concrete GPO markers are certainly not restricted to one area, I've never seen the iron ones myself.

This is one I found in Worcester last November (definitely not LS postcode, but shows they are not restricted to Yorkshire!).
