Surviving chimneys of Leeds

I don't know how many were home in time to catch it but Evan Davies did a report on Friday's 10 O'clock news about the "frailty"of the apartment market in Leeds. It was presumably on at 6 too but many would have been in Sam's or on the Town Hall tour at the time.

Not a mill chimney I know, but thought the chimney of Bramley Swimming Baths on Broad Lane was worth a mention.

trust me, being a joiner who works on all of these ''luxury'' flats in town, and all over yorks, they are not luxury at all! they look okay, but the cheapest, crappest materials are used to do this! Obviously to keep budgets down and profits up.

They have np requirement for quality fittings, and the tenants have no real incentive to look after them.What they will look like in 3-5 years time god only knows.

It's been made redundant by being associated with toilet tissue or tiny apartments with £4/m2 laminate flooring and neutral colour schemes.

A leodis photo taken from Canal Road showing a collection of chimneys across the landscape.The only one still standing is second from the left,belonging to Armley Mills.
