Searching on Leodis last night I found a picture of the Brunswick building, part of Leeds Met. I have always wondered why the section pictured has the wires still sticking out as if another structure was there or was to be added. It looks very unfinished, and is only not considered an eyesore as it is at the back of the building and you cant really see it unless you go wandering around there. I've tried to find some pics of anything attached but with no luck so wonder if anyone has any info at all. It's a wierd building in itself, and I dont think anyone has mentioned it on any of the best/worst buildings in Leeds threads- does this go to show it is totally unloved and forgotten?

I think I may have mentioned it. I rather like it, although I understand it's slated for the chop.

It has its good points, especially on a sunny day. I think the weird bit was for an extension that was ever built.

The building has been closed completely for about 6 months other than it is still being used for storage. Together with its car park and bundled with the council car park over the road it was "sold" by Tender to Developers. Contracts have still yet to be exchanged but I am sure they will be.I'm not sure if its the current plan but these were the original detailshttp://www.leeds-cityscape.co.uk/Brunswick_Place.htmA sad end for a TV star. As mentioned on a couple of other threads it was used in an episode of Blakes 7 because even more than 10 years after being built it still had a futuristic appearance in the early 80s

sorry to disagree,i mean i can see it,s futuristic qualities,it reminds me of the jedi temple(yeah yeah sad, whatever)but the sooner leeds is cleared of all 60s and 70s monolith concrete monstrosoties...well the happier i will be.

Thanks for the answers. I think it is a shame it is going as cleaned up it would look OK I reakon. It looks like there was a bit that was build on the side of it already, like there is a roof line on the side of the building that is exposed. If you look at a google map view of the site, it is feasable that another wing could have gone on the vacant end...

I was always told that the builders / developers suddenly ran out of money and that's why the end of the building looks like it does. When I mean suddenly, I mean as in "down tools lads we can't pay you after today". That would explain why the side is exposed and looks the way it does.
