Hi Claire.The entrance to the shelter looks a little different to when I last looked, it looks a little more buried like someone's tried to fill it in since.Anyway the shelters would have been for the workers, at one time there were a few dye works, and engineering places around there, all taking their power from various mill ponds. I'll upload the 1930's map, it's take your pick which building the shelter belonged to. My money is on the Grove Works Engineering place.There are some smaller shelters a little further on, a farmers field, they were marked on old maps, I'll see if I can find them. You can still see the raised mounds of earth.

I think they were filled in, and the field was fenced in, it's several years ago now, probably 5 at least, so recollections are a bit hazy. But I'm sure there were drinking troughs (old baths) and some kind of large animal, horse or cow or similar. I never trust anything bigger than myself in the animal world, so I didn't take a close look.(An Ostrich being an obvious example, such a big bird with a tiny head, no wonder their dangerous with having such a small pea brain)

My good chum Dave visited the RAF Holmpton bunker near Withernsea over the summer, he took lots of photos and apparently the tour took a couple of hours and was conducted by ex RAF / ROC crew. Looks very extensive for such an out of the way place. This new Cold War series on the BBC looks to be interesting too.
