These are 2 photos that I took today (Nov 11 2015) from Kirkgate showing a view of what remains at Hills Furnishers site. Though Kirkgate was closed to traffic I could not get closer because of a safety barrier.
I shall post 2 photos in my next post showing views from the rear.- Attachments

These are 2 photos that I took today (Nov 11 2015) from Crown Street looking across to Kirkgate that show views at the burnt out Hills Furnishers building that was on Kirkgate. I could not get closer and had to hold my camera up against wire mesh security fencing.

Oh well, that's the old fire insurance plaque gone forever then. I'll bet that wasn't saved before it was demolished.

These are a couple of photos of the fire damaged site that I managed to take from Kirkgate on November 25 2015. Some interesting features are visible. I particularly like what looks like a 'shed' (seen better in the zoomed-in second photo).

Is this the end of the story ...or the beginning of a legend?

Thanks buffaloskinner for that very interesting information and the overlay.

These are 3 photos I took on December 2 2015. The first is a view showing some burnt beams. I like the vent-like object (it looked metal but I could not get to it to check) and the chairs may (or may not) be from the burnt-out Hills Furnishers. The second shows some substantial sized burnt beams that were stored locked behind a metal fence in a railway arch at the bottom of Crown Street Car Park. I don't know but I assume they are from the burnt-out building. The third shows some more burnt beams locked in another arch there.

I suspect those beams will be 18th century at least. Hopefully they are being kept so as to be recycled into the Kirkgate redevelopment.

I think the suggestion is that some of them (at least) may be part of the late medieval timber frame that's been discovered in the structure of the building during demolition.
