Thanks for posting the pics, Tasa. You figured out the software, then? My pics are still in the camera!
Phill - are you back from under Skipton yet? I can't make the Oddfellows' cheese and wine party tonight - the wife's working late. Are you still going?

Never mind, Phill. I have a hunch no-one there will have a clue about the skulls or the Crown and Fleece anyway. I'll break out the Shiraz and Wensleydale at home instead! What were you up to in Skipton? Owt interesting? Good luck on your little trip tonight.
PS Just seen your Skipton pics on your MySpace site. Excellent! I particularly like "Fantasy Blue" - a superb photograph.

Thanks Si. Glad you liked that. The fantasy blue is my favourite of the day. I did a train grave yard yesterday. Great places

It has gone quiet. I think various people are awaiting responses from the powers-that-be, Lilysmum. I'm still waiting for Dan Cruickshank and the British Brick Society to get in touch!!! ;-)

Well ive not even had a reply from the YEP old Yorkshire diary or from this Mytum chap.
Seems that skulls like these must be so common that no one is interested!!!!!!

It's such a shame to have no response after all the effort that's been put in by you guys, perhaps they are keeping quiet for a while and then will "discover" the skulls and take the credit for uncovering the mystery!

I wouldn't be surprised. It's already happened with Phill's Pablo Fanque thread!

Does anyone on here know the artist Damien Hirst? Isn't he from Leeds? He recently sold a piece of his work for around 5million quid! It was a diamond encrusted SKULL!!! Maybe he would be interested to know about the two skulls in need of help in his home town, probably a long shot but you never know.

According to Wikipedia, Damien Hirst was born in Bristol, but brought up in Leeds. I don't know him, or where he lived, but he was rejected (after his first attempt at entry) by Leeds College of Art (Jacob Kramer) - something I have in common with him! It might be worth trying to get in touch, but he is a bit of a "loose cannon!" However, he does have a reputation for being obsessed with death (half a sheep in formaldyhide anyone?!)

He did a 15 minute programme on B.B.C 2 a few years ago about his most favourite building. He chose the Wolesley university building in Leeds. It was were he got his fascination for things preserved in Formaldehyde. He loved the brutal harshness of the place. Getting in touch with him might be a good idea yah!!

How about we pickle a cow in & get it in the Y.E.P. I'm sure he'd view that most favourably lol

Even better, send it to the restaurant to put on the menu - apparently he still helps out in there when he's around... OK, I think I'm being a mad cow before anyone else says it

I can possibly push back the date of the Crown/Crown and Fleece a little. The'Leeds Directory for 1800' printed by Binns and Brown contains an entry for an Inkeeper called 'Townsley' who ran the 'Crown' on Call Lane. This is certainly not an entry for the 'Old Crown', and although our pub was/is a good few yards from Call Lane I am of the opinion that this is the pub being referred to.
